ROOMS 15 INTRODUCES I ORIGINS

By Abigail Yue Wang

Now that we are halfway through Raindance Film Festival in London’s improbably adoring weather, ROOMS 15 has had a fortunate exchange with director Mike Cahill, the man behind Raindance’s opening film I ORIGINS. Cahill’s tale is a microcosm that merges two of the most clashing systems in our culture – belief and science. It argues, compares, experiments; but out of Cahill’s daring visions perhaps the heart of it all is the innate warmth in our species that eventually transcends opinions and time. Mesmerizingly performed by Michael Pitt, Brit Marling and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, I ORIGINS is only the beginning of Cahill’s cinematic universe about science and affection.

“It is only those moments of incredible disruption that shake us out of our everyday lives, and can really motivate new manners of thinking in our civilization. Somehow we are this paradox. The narratives of Another Earth and I Origins are born from tragedy, but are also responses to tragedy. From there we seek to consult comfort and make life a little bit better”.
