REXROMAE presents: BORONDO’S ‘ANIMAL’

  • Londonewcastle Project Space 28 Redchurch St London, E2 7DP United Kingdom (map)

By Kristina Jensen

The signature style emanating from the prolific work of the 24-year-old urban artist Gonzalo Borondo combines two genres; classic portraiture and street art. In ‘Animal’ Borondo is raw yet poetic, leaving behind earthly vanities and mass media influenced notions. He incites the public to pause and reflect on mortality, considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of secular goods and pursuits.

“The biggest part of my work [is to] try to reflect our dramatic nature. I use the universal body-language to show the issues of the human condition.”

RexRomae, an urban contemporary art gallery scheduling inventive pop-up exhibitions in vacant spaces across London, is hosting Borondo’s display, which will take its audience through eight thematic spaces. The immersive experience will include video installations and painting animations in collaboration with Carmen Maín and sculpture installations created with Edoardo Tresoldi and Despina Charitonidi.

The exhibition, which is curated by Rom Levy and Charlotte Dutoit, will be open to the public from 05.02 – 26.02 2015.
